This Sunday, the growing threat of wildfires is the topic on the all new "Eyewitness Newsmakers with Marc Brown."

LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Wildfire season in Southern California seems to get longer and more dangerous every year, thanks to climate change.

For perspective, from 2017-2020, wildfires burned more than 11,583 square miles of land in California. That's the size of Connecticut and Hawaii combined.

But wildfires don't just spontaneously break out - most are caused by human activity.

So can we do more to prevent fires?

That was the focus Sunday of the all new "Eyewitness Newsmakers with Marc Brown."

Brown spoke to leaders of two major SoCal firefighting agencies as well as an elected policy maker to hear about what is needed to prevent and fight catastrophic fires.

The show's guests included Orange County Fire Authority Chief Brian Fennessy, Cal Fire Southern Region Chief David Fulcher and Los Angeles County Supervisor Kathryn Barger.

Watch Sunday at 11am on ABC7 and everywhere you stream.
